Corn for grain production in North Dakota based on year-end surveys is estimated at 247 million bushels, down 40% from 2019, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Yield of 139 bushels per acre is up 8 bushels from last year. Farmers harvested 1.78 million acres of corn for grain, down 43% from 2019. Corn for silage production totaled 2.25 million tons, down 18% from 2019. Yield, at 15.5 tons per acre, is down 4.0 tons per acre from a year earlier. Area for harvest, at 145,000 acres, is up 4% from 2019. Total acreage planted for all purposes is 1.95 million acres, down 44% from last year.

Soybean production for 2020 totaled 191 million bushels, up 12% from 2019. Yield, at 33.5 bushels per acre, is up 2.0 bushels from a year earlier. Area for harvest, at 5.70 million acres, is up 6% from 2019. Total acreage planted is 5.75 million acres, up 3% from last year.

Potato production is 22.9 million cwt, up 18% from 2019. Yield, at 325 cwt per acre, is down 10 cwt from a year earlier. Area harvested, at 70,500 acres, is up 12,500 acres from 2019. Total acreage planted is 72,000 acres, down 1,000 acres from last year.

Oil sunflower production in 2020 is 1.18 billion pounds, up 79% from last year. Yield, at 1,880 pounds per acre, is up 380 pounds from a year earlier and a record high. Area harvested, at 630,000 acres, is up 43% from 2019. Total acreage planted is 640,000 acres, up 36% from last year. Non-oil sunflower production of 154 million pounds is up 73% from last year. Yield, at 1,810 pounds per acre, is up 160 pounds from a year earlier. Area harvested, at 85,000 acres, is up 31,000 from 2019. Total acreage planted is 93,000 acres, up 43% from last year.

Canola production of 2.92 billion pounds is up 1% from last year. Yield of 1,960 pounds per acre is up 160 pounds from a year earlier and tying the record high. Area harvested, at 1.49 million acres, is down 120,000 acres from 2019. Total acreage planted is 1.51 million acres, down 11% from last year.

Flaxseed production is estimated at 4.07 million bushels, down 5% from 2019. Yield per harvested acre is estimated at 21.0 bushels, down 1.0 bushel from last year. Acres harvested are estimated at 194,000, down from 195,000 a year ago. Total acreage planted is 200,000 acres, down 27% from last year.

Dry edible bean production of 12.8 million cwt is up 66% from a year ago. Yield, at 1,630 pounds per acre, is up 230 pounds from a year earlier. Area harvested, at 785,000 acres, is up 42% from 2019. Total acreage planted is 815,000 acres, up 32% from last year.

All Chickpea production in 2020 is 238,000 cwt, down 36.5% from last year. Yield, at 1,980 pounds per acre, is up 280 pounds from a year earlier. Area harvested, at 12,000 acres, is down 45.5% from 2019. Total acreage planted is 12,400 acres, down 69.8% from last year.

Dry edible pea production is estimated at 7.80 million cwt, down 15% from 2019. Yield is estimated at 2,400 pounds per acre, up 140 pounds from last year and tying the record high. Acres harvested are estimated at 325,000, down 20% from a year ago. Total acreage planted is 330,000 acres, down 22% from last year.

Lentil production is estimated at 1.13 million cwt, up 23% from the previous year. Yield is estimated at 1,400 pounds per acre, up 100 pounds from last year. Acres harvested are estimated at 81,000, up 14% from 2019. Total acreage planted is 83,000 acres, down 13% from last year.

Sugarbeet production is estimated at 5.45 million tons, up 23% from last year. Yield is estimated at 24.9 tons per acre, down 1.1 tons from the previous year. Acres harvested are estimated at 219,000, up 29% from the previous year. Total acreage planted is 221,000 acres, up 9,000 acres from last year.

Alfalfa hay production, at 2.20 million tons, is unchanged from a year earlier. The average yield, at 1.80 tons per acre, is unchanged from 2019. Area harvested for dry hay, at 1.22 million acres, is unchanged from 2019. Seedings of alfalfa during 2020 totaled 75,000 acres, up 5,000 acres from the year earlier. All other hay production, at 1.40 million tons, is down 27% from 2019. Average yield, at 1.40 tons per acre, is down 0.20 ton per acre from last year. Area harvested at 1.00 million acres, is down 17% from 2019.
