North Dakota Farmers Begin Soybean Harvest

For the week ending Sunday, there were 6.0 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 14% very short, 29% short, 50% adequate, and 7% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 12% very short, 26% short, 55% adequate, and 7% surplus.

Soybean condition rated 9% very poor, 8% poor, 30% fair, 47% good, and 6% excellent. Soybeans dropping leaves was 57%, well ahead of 36% last year, but near 58% for the five-year average. Harvested was 1%, near 2% average.

Spring wheat harvested was 90%, ahead of 72% last year, but near 91% average.

Durum wheat mature was 96%, near 95% last year. Harvested was 86%, well ahead of 49% last year, and ahead of 80% average.

Winter wheat planted was 15%.

Corn condition rated 5% very poor, 11% poor, 27% fair, 50% good, and 7% excellent. Corn dented was 68%, well ahead of 34% last year, but near 70% average. Mature was 18%, ahead of 2% last year, and equal to average.

Canola harvested was 69%, well ahead of 45% last year, but behind 75% average.

Sugarbeet condition rated 1% very poor, 2% poor, 5% fair, 43% good, and 49% excellent. Sugarbeets harvested was 10%, near 11% last year and 9% average.

Oats harvested was 94%, ahead of 77% last year, and near 93% average.

Barley harvested was 96%, ahead of 86% last year, and near 95% average.

Dry edible peas harvested was 94%, near 92% last year.

Sunflower condition rated 8% very poor, 12% poor, 30% fair, 45% good, and 5% excellent. Sunflowers ray flowers dry was 88%, ahead of 75% last year, and near 87% average. Bracts turned yellow was 66%, well ahead of 44% last year, and near 62% average. Bracts turned brown was 30%, well ahead of 6% last year, and ahead of 20% average.

Flaxseed harvested was 72%, well ahead of 32% last year, and near 68% average.

Potato condition rated 4% very poor, 3% poor, 24% fair, 51% good, and 18% excellent. Potatoes vines dry was 83%, ahead of 73% last year and 72% average. Harvested was 20%, ahead of 9% last year and 13% average.

Dry edible bean condition rated 5% very poor, 11% poor, 26% fair, 45% good, and 13% excellent. Dry edible beans dropping leaves was 90%, ahead of 82% last year, and equal to average. Harvested was 29%, ahead of 12% last year, but behind 38% average.

Lentils harvested was 72%, well ahead of 39% last year, but behind 79% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 10% very poor, 22% poor, 43% fair, 23% good, and 2% excellent.

Stock water supplies rated 6% very short, 24% short, 67% adequate, and 3% surplus.
