Senate Ag Committee Leader Coming to North Dakota

Senate Agriculture Committee Ranking Member John Boozman of Montana is coming to North Dakota in a few weeks to hear from local agriculture groups about the farm bill. There's no firm date, but it's in the works for the end of August or early September.

"I'm anxious to come to North Dakota. We're trying to craft a new farm bill and getting input from stakeholders. It's not a one size fits all bill."

Boozman already met with farmers in Michigan and Arkansas to get their feedback.

"For the 2018 Farm Bill, it was a tweaking of the previous farm bill. There weren't major changes. This time, to be honest, I don't know what it will look like, because I don't know what circumstances we'll be facing in the next few months. There's a consensus input costs are greater than ever. We have a lot of things to work on, but we haven't arrived at a particular way to solve those problems. At the end of the day, we need something everyone can live with and is a good five-year program."
