North Dakota Corn Harvest Begins



For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 12% very short, 41% short, 45% adequate, and 2% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 11% very short, 40% short, 48% adequate, and 1% surplus.

Soybean condition rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 35% fair, 52% good, and 6% excellent. Soybeans dropping leaves was 89%, behind 96% last year and 94% for the fiveyear average. Harvested was 26%, behind 45% last year and 31% average.

Spring wheat harvested was 97%, near 100% last year and 98% average.

Durum wheat mature was 96%, near 100% both last year and average. Harvested was 89%, behind 100% last year and 95% average.

Winter wheat planted was 78%, near 81% last year, but ahead of 73% average. Emerged was 29%, behind 39% last year and 38% average.

Corn condition rated 2% very poor, 6% poor, 31% fair, 54% good, and 7% excellent. Corn dented was 94%, behind 99% last year, but near 93% average. Mature was 66%, behind 80% last year, but ahead of 61% average. Harvested was 3%, behind 17% last year, and near 7% average.

Canola harvested was 88%, behind 95% last year, and near 90% average.

Sugarbeet condition rated 1% very poor, 2% poor, 34% fair, 53% good, and 10% excellent. Sugarbeets harvested was 18%, near 15% last year, but behind 27% average.

Sunflower condition rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 31% fair, 58% good, and 4% excellent. Sunflowers ray flowers dry was 96%, near 99% last year and 98% average. Bracts turned yellow was 90%, near 94% last year and 91% average. Bracts turned brown was 55%, behind 73% last year and 68% average.

Flaxseed harvested was 87%, behind 100% last year, and near 89% average.

Potatoes vines dry was 89%, near 93% last year, and behind 95% average. Harvested was 72%, ahead of 59% last year and 60% average.

Dry edible beans harvested was 77%, behind 82% last year, but near 74% average.

Lentils harvested was 93%, behind 100% last year, but near 91% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 2% very poor, 20% poor, 38% fair, 39% good, and 1% excellent.

Stock water supplies rated 5% very short, 40% short, 54% adequate, and 1% surplus.
