Lim Named Extension Weed Specialist at Williston Research Center

Charlemagne Lim has joined North Dakota State University (NDSU) Extension as a weed specialist based at the Williston Research Extension Center (WREC) in Williston.

His role will be to develop innovative Extension programs that help producers, landowners, Extension agents, economic development leaders and agriculture industry partners identify, assess and control weeds.

He also will communicate with other Extension specialists, appropriate Research Extension Center personnel and producers about issues that need new or additional research.

In 2020, Lim earned his doctorate in plant sciences at Montana State University. As a graduate student and postdoctoral research associate, Lim screened and characterized kochia populations for multiple resistance to glyphosate, dicamba and ALS-inhibitor herbicides. He also conducted field trials on weed control and crop safety of new and existing pre- and post-emergence herbicide formulations/chemistries.

"With his experience and knowledge of weed management strategies, we are looking forward to having Dr. Lim connect with farmers in the MonDak region," says Jerald Bergman, WREC director.

"It's my pleasure to join NDSU and the WREC," says Lim. "I'm looking forward to working and collaborating with our farmers, county Extension agents, agronomists, specialists and research scientists at RECs to meet producers' needs for weed control and management, especially in light of weed herbicide-resistance issues".

He can be reached at charlemagne.lim@ndsu.edu, or by phone at 701-774-4315.
