Another Dry Week for North Dakota Crops



For the week ending Sunday, there were 6.7 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 10% very short, 38% short, 51% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 6% very short, 34% short, 58% adequate, and 2% surplus.

Soybean condition rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 39% fair, 46% good, and 9% excellent. Soybeans dropping leaves was 18%, well behind 41% last year, and behind 31% for the five-year average.

Spring wheat condition rated 0% very poor, 1% poor, 24% fair, 62% good, and 13% excellent. Spring wheat mature was 90%, behind 100% last year and 98% average. Harvested was 62%, well behind 93% last year, and behind 80% average.

Durum wheat condition rated 0% very poor, 1% poor, 19% fair, 69% good, and 11% excellent. Durum wheat coloring was 94%, behind 100% both last year and average. Mature was 78%, well behind 100% last year, and behind 95% average. Harvested was 50%, well behind 89% last year and 70% average.

Winter wheat planted was 7%, near 5% last year and 3% average.

Corn condition rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 33% fair, 51% good, and 10% excellent. Corn dough was 88%, behind 93% last year, and near 89% average. Dented was 45%, behind 60% last year, and near 46% average. Mature was 1%, behind 11% last year and 7% average.

Canola condition rated 0% very poor, 3% poor, 24% fair, 59% good, and 14% excellent. Canola coloring was 93%, behind 100% last year and 99% average. Harvested was 39%, behind 57% last year and 52% average.

Sugarbeet condition rated 5% very poor, 3% poor, 30% fair, 51% good, and 11% excellent. Sugarbeets harvested was 4%, near 5% last year and 7% average.

Oats mature was 97%, near 98% last year, and equal to average. Harvested was 76%, behind 91% last year and 84% average.

Barley mature was 96%, near 100% last year and 99% average. Harvested was 74%, well behind 95% last year, and behind 87% average.

Dry edible peas dropping leaves was 91%, behind 100% both last year and average. Harvested was 78%, behind 94% last year and 92% average.

Sunflower condition rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 34% fair, 56% good, and 5% excellent. Sunflowers ray flowers dry was 59%, well behind 81% last year, and behind 73% average. Bracts turned yellow was 31%, behind 43% last year and 40% average. Bracts turned brown was 8%, behind 13% last year, and near 9% average.

Flaxseed condition rated 0% very poor, 4% poor, 24% fair, 69% good, and 3% excellent. Flaxseed coloring was 96%, near 100% last year and 99% average. Harvested was 54%, behind 69% last year, but ahead of 49% average.

Potato condition rated 0% very poor, 0% poor, 29% fair, 51% good, and 20% excellent. Potatoes vines dry was 36%, behind 45% last year and 54% average. Harvested was 10%, ahead of 4% both last year and average.

Dry edible bean condition rated 1% very poor, 3% poor, 39% fair, 47% good, and 10% excellent. Dry edible beans dropping leaves was 42%, well behind 85% last year and 77% average. Harvested was 7%, behind 13% last year and 15% average.

Alfalfa condition rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 28% fair, 53% good, and 14% excellent.

Lentils harvested was 42%, well behind 87% last year and 64% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 1% very poor, 9% poor, 37% fair, 48% good, and 5% excellent.

Stock water supplies rated 1% very short, 21% short, 76% adequate, and 2% surplus.
