US Crop Progress Update Shows Mixed Crop Conditions

By Jamie Martin

The USDA’s latest Crop Progress report for the week ending June 7, 2026, shows steady progress across major crops, with corn and soybeans leading the season.

Corn planting has reached 97% completion in the top producing states, slightly above the five-year average. Crop emergence stands at 86%, in line with normal levels. The condition of corn remains stable, with 67% rated good to excellent, while 6% is rated poor to very poor.

Soybeans are also ahead of schedule, with 92% planted compared to the average of 88%. Emergence has reached 79%, showing faster growth than usual. Crop condition is mostly positive, with 65% rated good to excellent and only a small portion in poor condition.

Winter wheat continues to show mixed results. While 92% of the crop has headed and harvest has reached 11%, overall quality remains low. Only 25% of the crop is rated good to excellent, while nearly half is considered poor to very poor, highlighting ongoing challenges.

Spring wheat progress is strong, with 98% planted, and 87% emerged, both ahead of average. Crop condition is moderate, with over half rated good to excellent.

Oats are also showing steady development. Emergence is 95%, and heading is 39%, both above typical levels. However, crop conditions vary, with some fields still facing quality concerns.

In general, the report shows a positive outlook for corn and soybeans, while wheat crops, especially winter wheat, continue to face challenges this season.
