75 Percent of North Dakota Lambing Complete

For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.8 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Reports indicated that, on average, producers intend to begin fieldwork on April 13. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 58% very short, 25% short, 16% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 52% very short, 28% short, 19% adequate, and 1% surplus.

Spring wheat planted was 8%, ahead of 2% for the five-year average.

Durum wheat planted was 3%.

Winter wheat condition rated 17% very poor, 35% poor, 40% fair, 8% good, and 0% excellent.

Winter wheat jointed was 5%.

Corn planted was 2%.

Sugarbeets planted was 5%, near 1% average.

Oats planted was 2%, near 1% average.

Barley planted was 3%, near 1% average.

Dry edible peas planted was 2%.

Cattle and calf conditions rated 3% very poor, 6% poor, 23% fair, 51% good, and 17% excellent. Cattle and calf death loss rated 1% heavy, 45% average, and 54% light. Calving progress was 57% complete, ahead of 45% last year and 51% average.

Sheep and lamb conditions rated 0% very poor, 3% poor, 15% fair, 65% good, and 17% excellent. Sheep and lamb death loss rated 1% heavy, 57% average, and 42% light. Lambing progress was 75% complete, ahead of 66% last year and 67% average. Shearing progress was 84% complete, ahead of 77% last year.

Hay and roughage supplies rated 16% very short, 32% short, 46% adequate, and 6% surplus.

Stock water supplies rated 39% very short, 29% short, 31% adequate, and 1% surplus.
