N.D. Corn, Pea, Lentil Harvests Forecast Down Double Digits

Based on September 1 conditions, North Dakota's 2017 soybean crop is forecast at 250 million bushels, up 1 percent from last year according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Area for harvest, at a record 7.15 million acres, is 19 percent above from 2016. Average yield is forecast at 35.0 bushels per acre, down 6.5 bushels from last 2016.

Corn production is forecast at 428 million bushels, down 17 percent from last year's production. Area harvested for grain is estimated at 3.45 million acres, up 6 percent from 2016. Average yield is forecast at 124 bushels per acre, down 34 bushels from last year.

Sugarbeet production is forecast at 6.03 million tons, down 3 percent from last year's crop. Area for harvest, at 192,000 acres, is down 5 percent from last year. Yield is forecast at a record 31.4 tons per acre, up 0.6 tons from last year.

Dry edible pea production is forecast at 7.01 million hundredweight, down 43 percent from last year's production. Area harvested for peas is estimated at 425 thousand acres, down 22 percent from 2016. Average yield is forecast at 1,650 pounds per acre, down 600 pounds from last year.

Lentil production is forecast at 1.86 million hundredweight, down 51 percent from last year's production. Harvested acreage is estimated at 265 thousand acres, down 11 percent from last year. Yield is forecast at 700 pound per acre, down 570 pounds from last year.
