$34.4 million in Loans for N.D. Electricity Infrastructure

Senator John Hoeven, chairman of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committee and a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, Monday announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development is investing $34.4 million in electricity infrastructure in North Dakota. The funds are awarded through USDA’s Electric Infrastructure Loan Program. Details are as follows:

Capital Electric Cooperative – $30 million – The funds will be used to build over 95 miles of line and improve nearly 85 miles of line. The funds will also be used to make other system improvements including more than $2 million for smart grid projects.

Cavalier Rural Electric Cooperative – $4.4 million – The funds will be used to build nearly 20 miles of line and improve more than 60 miles of line. The funds will also be used to make other system improvements including for smart grid projects.

“Communities and businesses throughout our state depend on reliable energy,” Hoeven said. “Today’s investments will help ensure the continued reliability and transmission of electricity for residents and businesses in central and northeastern North Dakota.”
