Produced Water Spill Reported in Williams County
North Dakota Ag Connection - 07/16/2019

The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality (NDDEQ) reported Monday that it has been notified of a produced water spill resulting from a pipeline leak in Williams County. The pipeline is owned and operated by Polar Midstream, LLC.

The incident occurred about 20 miles east of Williston on July 14, and it was reported the same day.

Produced water is a by-product of oil and gas development.

Initial estimates indicate approximately 500 barrels of produced water were released with an unknown volume impacting a tributary of the Missouri River. Personnel from the NDDEQ are inspecting the site and will continue to monitor the investigation and remediation.
