North Dakota Gets Nearly Perfect Week for Fieldwork

For the week ending Sunday, there were 6.3 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 1 percent very short, 12 short, 82 adequate, and 5 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 1 percent very short, 16 short, 79 adequate, and 4 surplus.

Soybean condition rated 1 percent very poor, 2 poor, 15 fair, 69 good, and 13 excellent. Soybeans blooming was 67 percent, well ahead of 38 last year and 44 for the five-year average. Setting pods was 19 percent, ahead of 4 last year and 7 average.

Spring wheat condition rated 1 percent very poor, 3 poor, 13 fair, 72 good, and 11 excellent. Spring wheat headed was 94 percent, near 90 last year, and ahead of 82 average. Coloring was 28 percent, near 24 last year, and ahead of 21 average.

Durum wheat condition rated 1 percent very poor, 2 poor, 16 fair, 69 good, and 12 excellent. Durum wheat headed was 91 percent, ahead of 80 last year, and well ahead of 64 average. Coloring was 15 percent, near 12 last year, and ahead of 8 average.

Winter wheat condition rated 1 percent very poor, 5 poor, 25 fair, 63 good, and 6 excellent. Winter wheat coloring was 74 percent, ahead of 67 last year. Mature was 20 percent, behind 31 last year.

Corn condition rated 0 percent very poor, 1 poor, 11 fair, 68 good, and 20 excellent. Corn silking was 33 percent, well ahead of 10 last year and 11 average.

Canola condition rated 1 percent very poor, 3 poor, 22 fair, 63 good, and 11 excellent. Canola blooming was 95 percent, near 91 last year. Coloring was 16 percent, near 15 last year and 14 average.

Sugarbeet condition rated 0 percent very poor, 0 poor, 10 fair, 13 good, and 77 excellent.

Oats condition rated 2 percent very poor, 1 poor, 10 fair, 76 good, and 11 excellent. Oats headed was 89 percent, near 91 last year, but ahead of 83 average. Coloring was 23 percent, behind 42 last year, and near 26 average. Mature was 1 percent, behind 8 last year.

Barley condition rated 1 percent very poor, 1 poor, 13 fair, 77 good, and 8 excellent. Barley headed was 95 percent, near 92 last year, and ahead of 84 average. Coloring was 36 percent, equal to last year, and ahead of 26 average.

Dry edible peas condition rated 0 percent very poor, 2 poor, 17 fair, 69 good, and 12 excellent. Dry edible peas blooming was 90 percent, near 88 last year. Dropping leaves was 25 percent, ahead of 17 last year. Sunflower condition rated 1 percent very poor, 1 poor, 11 fair, 79 good, and 8 excellent. Sunflowers blooming was 14 percent, ahead of 8 last year.
