N.D. Corn, Soybean Progress Behind Average

For the week ending Sunday, there were 6.3 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 12% very short, 33% short, 43% adequate, and 12% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 7% very short, 23% short, 55% adequate, and 15% surplus.

Soybean condition rated 1% very poor, 3% poor, 26% fair, 63% good, and 7% excellent. Soybeans emerged was 89%, behind 95% last year and 97% for the five-year average. Blooming was 1%, behind 9% average.

Spring wheat condition rated 2% very poor, 7% poor, 32% fair, 53% good, and 6% excellent. Spring wheat jointed was 79%, near 77% last year, but behind 88% average. Headed was 30%, ahead of 14% last year, but behind 43% average.

Durum wheat condition rated 3% very poor, 14% poor, 35% fair, 45% good, and 3% excellent. Durum wheat jointed was 63%, behind 74% last year and 81% average. Headed was 17%, ahead of 9% last year, but behind 29% average.

Winter wheat condition rated 6% very poor, 14% poor, 36% fair, 41% good, and 3% excellent. Winter wheat headed was 87%, well ahead of 67% last year, and ahead of 81% average.

Coloring was 8%, ahead of 1% last year.

Corn condition rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 27% fair, 58% good, and 9% excellent. Corn emerged was 92%, behind 97% last year and 99% average.

Canola condition rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 29% fair, 57% good, and 7% excellent. Canola blooming was 24%, ahead of 12% last year, but well behind 48% average.

Sugarbeet condition rated 0% very poor, 1% poor, 2% fair, 46% good, and 51% excellent. Oats condition rated 3% very poor, 11% poor, 32% fair, 49% good, and 5% excellent. Oats emerged was 97%, near 98% last year and 99% average. Jointed was 77%, ahead of 70% last year, but behind 85% average. Headed was 24%, ahead of 9% last year, but behind 42% average.

Barley condition rated 2% very poor, 6% poor, 27% fair, 59% good, and 6% excellent. Barley emerged was 96%, near 99% last year and 100% average. Jointed was 75%, near 79% last year, and behind 89% average. Headed was 27%, ahead of 17% last year, but behind 44% average.

Dry edible peas condition rated 3% very poor, 8% poor, 31% fair, 54% good, and 4% excellent. Dry edible peas blooming was 39%, ahead of 26% last year, but behind 55% average. Sunflower condition rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 38% fair, 53% good, and 3% excellent. Sunflowers planted was 93%, near 97% last year, and behind 99% average. Emerged was 83%, near 86% last year, and behind 91% average.

Flaxseed condition rated 3% very poor, 7% poor, 26% fair, 61% good, and 3% excellent. Flaxseed blooming was 15%, ahead of 8% last year, but behind 21% average.

Potato condition rated 2% very poor, 3% poor, 29% fair, 62% good, and 4% excellent. Potatoes emerged was 93%. Blooming was 6%, ahead of 1% last year, but near 10% average.

Dry edible bean condition rated 2% very poor, 6% poor, 25% fair, 59% good, and 8% excellent. Dry edible beans emerged was 95%, near 96% last year. Blooming was 3%, near 1% last year.

Alfalfa condition rated 4% very poor, 12% poor, 38% fair, 41% good, and 5% excellent. Alfalfa first cutting was 61%, well ahead of 25% last year, and ahead of 47% average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 5% very poor, 11% poor, 38% fair, 42% good, and 4% excellent.

Stock water supplies rated 5% very short, 16% short, 72% adequate, and 7% surplus.
