Majority of N.D. Top and Subsoil Moisture Adequate

For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.5 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 7 percent very short, 23 short, 66 adequate, and 4 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 11 percent very short, 29 short, 58 adequate, and 2 surplus.

Soybean condition rated 0 percent very poor, 2 poor, 19 fair, 73 good, and 6 excellent. Soybeans planted was 97 percent, equal to last year, and ahead of 89 for the five-year average. Emerged was 75 percent, behind 80 last year, but ahead of 63 average.

Spring wheat condition rated 0 percent very poor, 2 poor, 27 fair, 65 good, and 6 excellent. Spring wheat emerged was 95 percent, near 97 last year, but ahead of 86 average. Jointed was 31 percent, behind 44 last year, and equal to average.

Durum wheat condition rated 0 percent very poor, 2 poor, 29 fair, 58 good, and 11 excellent. Durum wheat emerged was 86 percent, behind 95 last year, but ahead of 76 average. Jointed was 26 percent, behind 42 last year, but ahead of 19 average.

Winter wheat condition rated 3 percent very poor, 7 poor, 40 fair, 47 good, and 3 excellent. Winter wheat jointed was 87 percent, behind 92 last year. Headed was 23 percent, behind 37 last year.

Corn condition rated 0 percent very poor, 2 poor, 25 fair, 66 good, and 7 excellent. Corn emerged was 89 percent, near 93 last year, but ahead of 83 average.

Canola condition rated 0 percent very poor, 3 poor, 24 fair, 68 good, and 5 excellent. Canola emerged was 89 percent, near 92 last year, but ahead of 77 average.

Oats condition rated 2 percent very poor, 5 poor, 34 fair, 55 good, and 4 excellent. Oats planted was 96 percent, near 99 last year and 94 average. Emerged was 84 percent, behind 93 last year, and near 86 average. Jointed was 39 percent, near 42 last year. Headed was 5 percent, near 7 last year and 3 average.

Barley condition rated 0 percent very poor, 2 poor, 23 fair, 72 good, and 3 excellent. Barley emerged was 94 percent, near 93 last year, and ahead of 82 average. Jointed was 40 percent, near 39 last year, and ahead of 29 average.

Dry edible peas condition rated 0 percent very poor, 2 poor, 32 fair, 59 good, and 7 excellent. Dry edible peas emerged was 84 percent, behind 95 last year, and near 88 average. Blooming was 5 percent, near 7 last year.

Sunflowers planted was 87 percent, behind 94 last year, but ahead of 74 average.

Flaxseed condition rated 0 percent very poor, 2 poor, 27 fair, 62 good, and 9 excellent. Flaxseed planted was 97 percent, ahead of 92 last year and 82 average. Emerged was 68 percent, equal to last year, and ahead of 58 average.

Potatoes emerged was 73 percent, near 76 last year, but well ahead of 50 average.

Dry edible beans planted was 95 percent, near 97 last year, but ahead of 81 average. Emerged was 67 percent, behind 72 last year, but ahead of 51 average.

Alfalfa condition rated 0 percent very poor, 8 poor, 41 fair, 48 good, and 3 excellent. Alfalfa first cutting was 2 percent, behind 21 last year.

Pasture and range conditions rated 3 percent very poor, 14 poor, 47 fair, 34 good, and 2 excellent.

Stock water supplies rated 4 percent very short, 17 short, 75 adequate, and 4 surplus.
