North Dakota Ag Connection - 01/17/2018

The next Science, Religion and Lunch Seminar, hosted by the Northern Plains Ethics Institute, is set to feature Jane Schuh, NDSU professor and associate director of the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station.

She is scheduled to present "No Rømmegrøt for You! Controversies over Gluten-Free Diets" Jan. 23 from noon to 1 p.m. in the Memorial Union's Meadow Lark room

Her talk will examine some of the controversies surrounding a gluten-free diet.

Schuh is the director of the cellular and molecular biology interdisciplinary graduate program at NDSU and a representative to the Council of College Faculties for the North Dakota University System. Her work on allergic fungal asthma has led to 38 peer-reviewed manuscripts, book chapters and review articles and 76 national and international academic presentations. Her academic research collaborations have included investigators from the Universities of California, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Utah and Wisconsin.

She was named the 2017 YWCA Woman of the Year for Science and Technology in the local community.

The Science, Religion and Lunch Seminar series fosters thoughtful dialogues on religion or science, with a special focus on the intersection between the two. Presenters take the seminar's first 40 minutes to develop their ideas for the diverse audience, and then answer questions for 20 minutes.
