40 Percent of N.D. Winter Wheat Good to Excellent

For the week ending Sunday, there were 5.1 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 10 percent very short, 24 short, 63 adequate, and 3 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 14 percent very short, 34 short, 50 adequate, and 2 surplus.

Soybeans planted was 33 percent, well behind 53 last year, and behind 40 for the five-year average. Emerged was 1 percent, behind 9 last year and 7 average.

Spring wheat planted was 78 percent, behind 86 last year, but ahead of 71 average. Emerged was 30 percent, well behind 52 last year, and behind 41 average.

Durum wheat planted was 62 percent, behind 69 last year, but ahead of 57 average. Emerged was 17 percent, behind 33 last year and 27 average.

Winter wheat condition rated 3 percent very poor, 13 poor, 44 fair, 38 good, and 2 excellent. Winter wheat jointed was 28 percent, well behind 57 last year.

Corn planted was 62 percent, behind 79 last year and 67 average. Emerged was 8 percent, well behind 34 last year, and behind 22 average.

Canola planted was 52 percent, behind 68 last year, and near 55 average. Emerged was 7 percent, well behind 27 last year, and behind 22 average.

Sugarbeets planted was 99 percent, equal to last year, and ahead of 85 average.

Oats condition rated 5 percent very poor, 6 poor, 34 fair, 49 good, and 6 excellent. Oats planted was 65 percent, well behind 85 last year, and behind 71 average. Emerged was 25 percent, well behind 51 last year, and behind 38 average. Jointed was 1 percent, behind 8 last year.

Barley condition rated 0 percent very poor, 3 poor, 35 fair, 58 good, and 4 excellent. Barley planted was 80 percent, behind 87 last year, but ahead of 68 average. Emerged was 32 percent, well behind 53 last year, and behind 39 average.

Dry edible peas planted was 66 percent, well behind 90 last year, and behind 73 average.

Emerged was 15 percent, well behind 47 last year and 37 average.

Sunflowers planted was 12 percent, behind 28 last year and 20 average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 6 percent very poor, 20 poor, 48 fair, 24 good, and 2 excellent.
