Reviewing Updated Flood Protection for Fargo-Moorhead
North Dakota Ag Connection - 03/21/2018

Senator John Hoeven of North Dakota Tuesday discussed recent progress on comprehensive flood protection for the Red River Valley with Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney. This follows the Fargo-Moorhead Diversion Authority's submission of a new permit application, which included all recommendations from the joint task force convened by Governors Doug Burgum and Mark Dayton, to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

"Our meeting was an important opportunity to review the changes made to Fargo-Moorhead's permit application," Hoeven said. "Further, we outlined the steps we are taking to ensure that comprehensive flood protection can be built in a timely manner while addressing upstream concerns. This is essential to the safety and well-being of the region's residents."

Tuesday's meeting aligns with Hoeven's efforts to advance regional flood protection efforts in the Red River Valley. This includes ensuring the support of key administration officials, such as the recently-confirmed Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, R.D. James, as well as Maj. Gen. Richard Kaiser and Col. Sam Calkins, Commanders of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi Valley Division and St. Paul District, respectively. Hoeven is also continuing his work as a member of the Senate Energy and Water Appropriations Committee to secure funding for the project.
