MCCC Annual Meeting and Conference in Fargo
North Dakota Ag Connection - 01/08/2018

The 2018 Midwest Cover Crops Council (MCCC) Annual Meeting and Conference will be held in Fargo, N.D., on March 13-14. Conference details and registration information are posted on at mccc.msu.edu/about/meetings/

Breakout sessions will touch on soil health topics like mycorrhizae and water movement, grazing, inter-cropping, inter-seeding, disease and weed management, nutrient cycling and economics in systems where cover crops are used. There will be experts from the USDA Agricultural Research Service, Iowa State University, Kansas State University, University of Manitoba, University of Minnesota, University of Missouri, North Dakota State University, Purdue and South Dakota State University covering these topics. Information presented will be science-based with practical applications on-farm.

We will follow breakout sessions with small group discussions with each of the presenters. This will provide attendees opportunities to get specific questions answered and to go more in depth on various topics. Social events and sit down lunches will encourage networking with other attendees and presenters throughout both days.

Sponsorships from the North Dakota orn and soybean councils will bring in keynote speaker, Clark Seavert from Oregon State University, who will talk about the impacts of changes in management to net returns and livelihoods of farmers. Originally from Forman, N.D., he understands farming in this region and will be using North Dakota-specific farm budgets in his AgBizProfit and AgBizClimate programs (www.agbizlogic.com/). He will also participate in discussion sessions for a more hands on approach with the concepts and program. Daryl Ritchison, Interim Director of NDAWN, will deliver his "Voices of the 1930's: When the Soil Blew Away" presentation as the closing keynote. This presentation puts into context why conservation practices are being implemented by many farmers today.
