API Scholarships Awarded at Williston State
North Dakota Ag Connection - 12/13/2017

Williston State College's Petroleum Production Technology student, Jennifer Householder, and WSC's Welding Technology student, Trevor Smith, both received a $1,000 scholarship from the Williston Basin Chapter of API.

Petroleum and welding department instructors selected specific students who might need these additional scholarship dollars to help complete the second year of their degree.

Householder completed a six-week paid technician internship with Schlumberger the summer of 2017 and will graduate this spring with an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree.

"While at WSC, Jennifer has always performed at the top of her class, and has been able to work at up to three-part time jobs, while still finding the time for her studies, and graduating in three semesters versus the normal four or more," stated Mack McGillivray, WSC Petroleum Technology Instructor.

The WSC Petroleum Production program offers classes covering Lease Operator training and Automation and Control Systems in the oil field, as well as Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Data Systems, and Networking Fundamentals classes.

A lifelong Williston resident, Smith will graduate this spring with an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree and hopes to find a job welding in the oil field.

"Trevor is a great student," stated Tim Delorme, WSC Welding Instructor. "He is always on time and always completes the work he is assigned. This scholarship is well deserved."

The WSC Welding program offers the following classes: Blueprint Reading, Welding Theory and Safety for Semi-Automatic Processes, Wire Feed and Welding Certification, Fabrication, Layout and Pattern Making, and Basic Metallurgy.
