N.D. Sugarbeet and Potato Forecasts Up

Based on November 1 conditions, North Dakota's 2017 soybean production is forecast at 249 million bushels, down slightly from last year according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Area for harvest, at 7.10 million acres, is 19 percent above 2016. Yield is forecast at 35.0 bushels per acre, down 6.5 bushels from last year.

Corn production is forecast at 427 million bushels, down 17 percent from last year's production. Area to be harvested for grain, at 3.19 million acres, is down 2 percent from a year ago. Yield is forecast at 134 bushels per acre, down 24.0 bushels from last year.

Sugarbeet production is forecast at 6.50 million tons, up 4 percent from last year. Area for harvest, at 209,000 acres, is up 3 percent from 2016. Yield is forecast at 31.1 tons per acre, up 0.3 tons from last year.

Potato production is forecast at 25.2 million cwt., up 16 percent from last year. Planted acres, at 75,000 acres, were down 5,000 acres from 2016. Acres harvested are estimated at 74,000 acres, up 2,000 acres from 2016. Yield is estimated at 340 cwt. per acre, up 40 cwt. from last year.
