North Dakota Ag Connection - 09/23/2020

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is investing nearly $20,000 to install energy-saving items in rural North Dakota.

"This project will help the business with longevity through modernized infrastructure and energy savings," said Carlson. "There are many ways a business can sustain themselves, through the many programs Rural Development offers to assist businesses and ag producers with their bottom line."

In Ransom, Maple Valley Locker, Inc. will use a nearly $20,000 grant to purchase a walk-in freezer and install LED lighting at its processing facility in Enderlin. This project will save the business nearly $500 per year and replace 3,775 kWh per year. Maple Valley Locker is a family-owned meat processing and retail facility.

Recipients can use REAP funding for energy audits and renewable energy systems such as biomass, geothermal, hydropower and solar. They also can be used to make energy efficiency improvements to heating, ventilation and cooling systems; insulation; and lighting and refrigeration, for example.
