North Dakota Potato Crop Value Up 4 Percent

Final production for the 2019 potato crop totaled 19.4 million cwt, down 18% from 2018, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Planted acres for 2019 totaled 73,000, down 2% from 2018. Harvested area, at 58,000 acres, was down 21% from the previous year. Yield for all potatoes averaged 335 cwt in 2019, 10 cwt per acre higher than the 2018 average yield.

The value of potatoes sold from the 2019 crop totaled $213 million, up 4% from 2018. The marketing year average price was $11.50 per cwt, up from $9.53 for the 2018 crop.

Potatoes sold from the 2019 crop totaled 18.5 million cwt, down 14% from 2018. Sales accounted for 95% of production, up 5% from the 2018 crop.
