Hoeven Comments After Continuing Resolution Passes House
North Dakota Ag Connection - 09/23/2020

Senator John Hoeven, chairman of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committee and a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, issued the following statement after an agreement was reached Tuesday night to provide Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) reimbursement as part of legislation to fund the government that is being considered by Congress this week.

Monday, the House released draft funding legislation without the regular reimbursement of the CCC. As chairman of the Agriculture Appropriations Committee, Hoeven has been working to find agreement for funding the CCC, which supports vital farm bill programs, including countercyclical safety net programs such as the Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs, risk management programs like Dairy Margin Coverage, as well as working lands programs like the Conservation Stewardship Program and the Environmental Quality Incentives Program.

"The CCC provides much-needed support for our nation's farmers and ranchers, which is why we worked so hard to ensure it is part of this funding legislation," said Hoeven. "Our producers rely on the safety net provided in the Farm Bill, and this regular reimbursement of the CCC ensures that these programs are provided without delay or interruption. At a time when our producers are already challenged by the coronavirus pandemic, bad weather and market volatility, this support for our farmers and ranchers is vital. This agreement ensures this regular CCC reimbursement continues and enables USDA to carry out important Farm Bill programs for our farmers and ranchers."

On Thursday, Hoeven was joined by members of the Senate Agriculture Committee in a colloquy to urge support for the CCC reimbursement. The senator cited a letter signed by more than 40 farm groups calling for funding the CCC. Hoeven was joined by Chairman Pat Roberts, Senator John Thune, Senator Deb Fischer, Senator Joni Ernst, Senator Cindy Hyde Smith and Senator John Boozman in urging support for the nation's farmers and ranchers as part of the continuing resolution.
