N.D. Corn for Grain Projected at Record High

Based on September 1 conditions, North Dakota's 2021 soybean crop is forecast at 181 million bushels, down 5% from last year according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Area for harvest, at 7.25 million acres, is up 27% from 2020 and a record high if realized. Average yield is forecast at 25.0 bushels per acre, down 8.5 bushels from last year.

Corn production is forecast at 413 million bushels, up 67% from last year's production. Area harvested for grain is estimated at a record high 3.82 million acres, up 115% from 2020. Average yield is forecast at 108 bushels per acre, down 31.0 bushels from last year.

Sugarbeet production is forecast at 5.60 million tons, up 3% from last year's crop. Area for harvest, at 224,000 acres, is up 2% from last year. Yield is forecast at 25.0 tons per acre, up 0.1 ton from last year.

Lentil production is forecast at 1.22 million cwt, up 7% from a year ago. Area for harvest, at 118,000 acres, is up 46% from 2020. Average yield is forecast at 1,030 pounds per acre, down 370 pounds from last year.

Dry edible pea production is forecast at 4.83 million cwt, down 38% from last year. Area for harvest, at 250,000 acres, is down 23% from last year. Yield is forecast at 1,930 pounds per acre, down 470 pounds from 2020.

All Chickpeas production is forecast at 162,000 cwt, down 32% from a year ago. Area for harvest, at 15,700 acres, is up 31% from last year. Yield is forecast at 1,030 pounds per acre, down 950 pounds from 2020.
